About Somerset County Maine Genealogy
Hi to my fellow genealogical researchers. At this site you will find a very large database containing a great number of the individuals who resided in the Somerset County Maine area from about the time of its settlement up until 1930. I have previously published this database at Ancesty.com under the heading of Somerset County Maine (versions 1-4) but I'll will be erasing that tree in favor of the much more updated version published here. Basically, I attempted to find some genealogical information on anyone who appeared in the 1790-1930 federal censuses for the area to the east and west of the Kennebec River - occasionally I tracked them outside of New England.

I found that Wisconsin and Minnesota were popular starting places for migration and that families tended south to states like Iowa after that. Another early destination was California where the gold ran free. If they went there it wasn't uncommon for me to find them back in Maine a few years later, no doubt spending their riches or wallowing in the failure of the attempt to become rich quick. Such is life.

My roots are not connected to this database. I expect that the tree presented here will have its share of issues and I hope that anyone who finds a problem, or wishes to add information, or wants to know how I arrived at some family connection will contact me so that I can make appropriate changes.

I hope you enjoy!

P.S. Just note that there is a slight uploading glitch for tribalpages that makes people who had no death information attached appear to be a living individual and they may not actually be. Still, I think you can be certain that anyone born before, say 1900, is probably not living in 2011!
